Big Pine Key is located at mm 33 and has its own grocery store, post office, churches, restaurants and bars. Far from being overcrowded, the pace of life on Big Pine is casual and relaxed. It is a National Key Deer Refuge, a large expanse of mostly undeveloped pine lands where the diminutive Key Deer live.

Here, you can snorkle or dive over the Looe Key coral reef, ride a bike through the Key Deer country,take a fishing adventure in the back country or troll the deep blue water beyond the reef. Although Big Pine, itself, does not have any beaches, there are some located on nearby Marathon and Bahia Honda.

For night life, tourist attractions and shopping, Key West is approximately 30 miles south.
